Most resins are supplied with accelerator already added. Small amounts of accelerator can be added to pre accelerated resin to speed up the cure time. Always mix the accelerator thoroughly into the resin BEFORE the catalyst. Never allow catalyst to come into contact with accelerator as this can cause a fire or explosion.
All resins, including Gel coat, must be catalysed with hardener before use. Uncatalysed resin simply will not harden. Hardener(catalyst) is availiable as paste or liquid.( catalyst, especialy in liquid form must be handled with special care taking extra precautions)
This is used to eliminate the surface tackiness caused by gelcoats and some resins when used as a final coating as in sheathing. Flowcoats which have the wax already added can be purchased but these must never be used as an initial gelcoat as in moulding. Resins or gelcoats applied with wax solution added will always need to be abraded if further coats are necessary.
